Telling stories

It’s clear from the comments I received on my last post that pricing is an issue that we have all agonised over.   Regardless of whether the money we generate from the sale of our work is our sole or a supplementary source of income, I think it’s worth reminding ourselves that our work has value and we should not feel guilty about putting a price on it.   As Vera puts it “These are all hours of your life that cannot be replaced, so don`t be afraid to charge accordingly!”   It’s important to keep in mind that our work is a reflection of us and like us is completely unique.  Our pieces communicate, tell stories and draw on skills (and I don’t mean just our technical expertise) that we have spent our lives building.

On a completely different note - I’d like to thank Etsian and blogger Palimpalim (http://palimpa-lim.blogspot.com.au/) for bestowing a ‘Versatile Blogger Award’ nomination on me this week.   Rather than just being a pat on the back, the Versatile Blogger Award is also something of a round robin.  It’s a great way to promote other bloggers, whilst letting our bloggees know a little bit more about ourselves.

One of the conditions of acceptance is to blog seven random things about me so here goes:  (1) I love gadgets – my iPad is one of my most favourite things in the world (2) I hate housework (3) one of my guilty pleasures is the cult TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer – I have all seven seasons on DVD and have watched them more times than I can count (4) If you hadn't already picked this up from the previous revelation, I’m kind of a nerd  (5)  I love my children more than life itself (6) I believe that we should always try to find the good in people – although I accept that sometimes it’s pretty hard when faced with a particularly obnoxious individual (7) I swear a lot.

Another condition of acceptance is to share the love and bestow the Versatile Blogger Award on 15 others. Below are the awesome blogs from some of my favourites for you to visit:

I found some more information on the Awesome Blogger at http://versatilebloggeraward.wordpress.com/about/

Now just a little caveat from me –ideas like the Awesome Blogger are generally great but sometimes they, for a number of reasons, become the equivalent of one of those ‘chain’ emails that do the rounds and where you end up feeling all guilty and burdened.  So, I did want to say to all of those people whose blogs I’ve listed  above– if you have the time and the inclination to follow the criteria for the Versatile Blogger Award that’s super but please don’t feel obliged and don’t feel in the least bit guilty if you don't wish to.

    1. That's completely fine - I always hesitate with these sorts of things (I chuck all chain mails straight in the trash regardless):)

  2. Thanks so much for the award but being the rebellious sort I too am a no awards type... That being said I would be cryin in my coffee right now If I wasn't included so thank you ! I do so love to be part of the gang and ever since camp in the second grade I have a tremendous fear and dread of being left out.

    1. I must say I did hesitate before doing this Versatile Blogger thing, fun as it may be, it isn't everyone's cup of tea.
As an English gal living now in Australia - much as everyone is warm and welcoming - it's hard sometimes not to feel a little bit of an outsider. That's one of the lovely things about etsy and blogging - international borders don't matter a hoot.

  3. Well, I just found you blog due to the Versatile Blogger Award but I must say I'm very angry with you for taking at least half a dozen I wanted to nominate. I agree that 15 blogs are a great number and I like your approach to just getting the word out.
Beatnheat ,you were one of them!

    1. Absolutely use it if you want to- I know that some people are really uncomfortable with this sort of thing so I wanted to be sure that they didn't feel under any obligation.
When I went back and checked I noticed that I had doubled up on quite a few blogs with PalimPalim (didn't notice at first because she used first names) so better slap my wrist - love Kate

  5. Ahh... now I know I didn't offend you when I made the off-color comment in one of my messages. I had worried about that!
I'm right with you on Buffy and housework too. I think things like this are super fun, although I may not nominate 15 people, I'll play along with the rest of it happily!
    Thanks for the nomination!

    XOXO,

    Melinda

  6. Thank you so much for the award and I've blogged about it. You'll be able to see that my blog skills are next to useless, I couldn't even put the button up! But I did manage to put a blog list up and it's all clickable. So everyone can now click away to see some amazing blogs.
I'm a buffy fan myself and I whole heartedly agree with loving your kids, I've got 2 girls.

    1. I don't think your blog skills are too shabby at all and your work speaks for itself in any case. I've got a boy and girl, almost 15 and 13 respectively. I keep expecting them to turn into vile teenagers but so far so good.

  7. Thank you so much for putting my blog on that list of incredible blogs, I'm honored! So for once I dare leave a comment. I agree with the uneasiness of the awards thing but it's also a great opportunity to share and discover some more blogs :)

    1. I'm so glad you feel that way - it's really just a bit of fun and I, like you, have found some great new blogs through the Versatile Blogger. I find leaving comments quite intimidating as well, particularly the first time.
